Program Description

What was everyday life like for Spanish monarchs? Where did lavish receptions take place, and where did the royals retreat to escape the bustle of court life? The Royal Palace of Aranjuez, located around 50 km from Madrid, offers a glimpse into a world of elegance, royal traditions and exquisite craftsmanship. The history of this residence dates back to the 16th century, and its interiors still reflect the splendour of the Spanish royal court.

As you step inside the palace, you'll find yourself surrounded by richly decorated chambers, where crystal chandeliers, antique mahogany furniture and ceiling frescoes immediately catch the eye. Natural light streaming through the tall windows brings out the intricate details of the décor, making it easy to imagine what life was like here centuries ago. You'll also explore Queen Isabella II's private apartments, including her bedroom and elegant boudoir - a personal sitting room where she could relax away from her royal duties. It's a chance to discover a more intimate side of life within the Spanish monarchy.

The grand state rooms have a completely different character, having once hosted important royal ceremonies. The Throne Room impresses with its lavish décor, reflecting the power of the monarchy, while the Ballroom and Dining Room evoke the atmosphere of magnificent royal receptions. In the Music Room, you can almost imagine the sound of instruments accompanying gatherings of courtiers. Each of these rooms tells a different story about the customs and ceremonies of the Spanish royal court.

One of the palace's true treasures, however, is the Porcelain Room - an extraordinary space whose walls and ceiling are adorned with intricate porcelain decorations. Their richness and precision make this one of the most distinctive interiors in the entire residence. It's hard to imagine just how much work went into creating such elaborate details!

The royal estate is also surrounded by gardens stretching along the River Tagus, which have been part of the palace landscape for centuries. The greenery, pathways and carefully planned grounds create a setting befitting a former residence of Spain's rulers.

Along with your ticket, you will also receive a digital guide to royal residences, featuring information about other sites connected to the monarchy in and around Madrid. It may even inspire you to continue exploring Spain's royal heritage beyond Aranjuez.
