Program Description
Step into the world of Rembrandt and visit the place where one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age lived and worked for almost 20 years. The Rembrandt House Museum is located in a historic 17th-century building where the artist developed his career, created his masterpieces and taught aspiring painters.
During your visit, you'll explore Rembrandt's living quarters, art collection and studio, gaining an insight into both his daily life and his artistic techniques. Period furniture, artworks and historical objects help recreate the atmosphere of his former home, revealing the world that surrounded and inspired him.
One of the highlights of the visit is the daily demonstrations of traditional painting and printmaking techniques. You'll discover how artworks were created using historical methods and learn more about the techniques used by Rembrandt and his fellow artists.
Your visit also includes access to the museum's modern wing, which hosts temporary exhibitions featuring works by Rembrandt and artists inspired by his legacy. From 19 September 2026 to 3 January 2027, you can explore the "Experimenteerdrift" exhibition, dedicated to artistic experimentation and the exploration of new techniques. The exhibition features more than 80 works on paper, including pieces by Rembrandt, Hercules Segers and Francisco Goya. You'll also have the opportunity to create your own artwork, drawing inspiration from the artists featured in the exhibition.
A multimedia tour available in multiple languages, including Dutch Sign Language, provides further insights into the painter's life, work and home. The museum also offers activities for families. Children can explore the house on a special multimedia tour featuring Kwast, Rembrandt's dog, or take part in a treasure hunt.
This is a fascinating experience for art lovers and anyone wishing to discover Amsterdam's rich cultural heritage while gaining a closer insight into the life and work of one of history's most celebrated painters.
The order of visits and the programme are subject to change.
