Program Description
Fashion can reveal more about an era than you might expect. Changing cuts, fabrics and details show how not only clothing, but also tastes and trends have evolved over the decades. At Fashion Museum Riga, you’ll embark on a journey through the history of fashion, discovering the styles that defined different eras.
You’ll begin with traditional Latvian costumes and 19th-century clothing, before moving on to the world of European and American fashion. The exhibition will take you through changing trends - from the Roaring Twenties to the end of the 1970s.
Each decade brought different silhouettes and new ideas about what it meant to be fashionable. You’ll see how styles changed over the years and how trends differed on either side of the Atlantic. It’s an opportunity to explore fashion not through photographs or screens, but through clothing representing different periods.
You’ll experience this journey at the first fashion museum in the Baltic States, located in the heart of Riga’s Old Town. From local traditions to trends that swept across Europe and America - here, the history of fashion unfolds decade by decade.
From 19th-century clothing to the fashion of the late 1970s - discover just how much our wardrobes have changed over the generations.
