Program Description
Discover Assisi, one of Italy's most important pilgrimage destinations and the birthplace of St. Francis, the patron saint of Italy. This charming medieval town is renowned for its spiritual heritage, remarkable architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
Your walking tour begins at Piazza Matteotti and continues to the magnificent Basilica of St. Francis, one of Italy's most important religious monuments and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its extraordinary frescoes and as the burial place of St. Francis.
Next, visit Piazza del Comune, the historic heart of Assisi, where you will admire the remains of the ancient Roman Forum and the remarkably preserved Temple of Minerva, one of the town's most significant Roman landmarks.
The tour continues to Piazza Chiesa Nuova, home to the elegant Renaissance Chiesa Nuova, distinguished by its impressive dome. Finally, pass the Oratory of San Francesco Piccolino, traditionally associated with the childhood of St. Francis, before visiting the beautiful Basilica of St. Clare, dedicated to the founder of the Order of Poor Clares.
