The Neretva Valley is a place where life has revolved around the river for centuries. During this full-day excursion, you’ll discover a picturesque network of canals and wetlands, cruise on a traditional boat and explore one of Croatia’s most valuable natural areas. Expect stunning landscapes, diverse wildlife and flora, and a chance to unwind away from the bustle of the coastal resorts.
Your adventure begins with a cruise along the Neretva River aboard a trupica, a traditional wooden riverboat that has been used by local communities for generations. As you glide through quiet canals and backwaters, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the unspoilt scenery and spot a variety of wildlife. Every bend in the river reveals new views, making this a perfect experience for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.
Next, you’ll arrive at Lake Kuti, a true haven for wildlife. The area is home to numerous bird species, including the golden eagle, common buzzard and peregrine falcon. Among the lush vegetation, you may also spot reptiles such as the Balkan green lizard. This green oasis creates a striking contrast with the region’s characteristic karst landscapes, offering a truly unique setting.
After the cruise, you’ll stop at Neretva House, a traditional tavern accessible only by boat. Surrounded by nature, you’ll enjoy a selection of authentic Dalmatian dishes prepared according to local recipes. During the meal, you’ll also have the opportunity to sample regional wine, which has long been an important part of the area’s culture and traditions.
After lunch, you’ll set off on a return cruise through the canals and wetlands of the Neretva Valley, giving you another chance to soak up the tranquillity and beauty of the surrounding landscape. Back on dry land, you’ll make a stop in Slano, a charming village on the Dubrovnik Riviera. Strolling through its peaceful streets, you’ll see the historic Rector’s Palace and small churches that have been part of the picturesque bay’s landscape for centuries.
