Program Description
This half-day trip takes you to La Boquilla, a small fishing village located just a few minutes from Cartagena, yet so different from its bustling tourist centre. It’s a unique opportunity to discover another side of Colombia - one filled with authentic Caribbean energy and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
Your adventure begins with a drive from Cartagena to La Boquilla, where you will immediately feel the change in atmosphere. Narrow streets, fishing boats, and the daily rhythm of the locals will reveal a more traditional and authentic side of the region. This is where you will see how close to nature local families live.
One of the highlights of this experience is a ride in a pirogue - a traditional wooden boat. You will glide through a labyrinth of mangrove forests that form natural tunnels surrounded by lush greenery. Along the way, you will also learn about the vital role mangroves play, especially for birds, providing a habitat for countless animals and serving as an essential resource for the surrounding communities.
Later, you will reach Ciénaga de Juan Polo, a peaceful coastal lagoon surrounded by dense mangroves. Here, your guide will take you deeper into this protected ecosystem, where you will have the chance to observe a variety of wildlife, especially migratory and native birds resting among the trees.
After an inspiring and relaxing afternoon, you will head back to Cartagena, enjoying the memories of a place that reveals the true soul of Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
Please note that the order of visits and the program may be subject to change.
