Program Description

Set sail from Reykjavík on an unforgettable cruise to observe one of Iceland’s most iconic birds – the Atlantic puffin. This unique excursion offers the perfect opportunity to see these charming seabirds in their natural habitat while discovering the rich wildlife of Iceland’s coastline.

After departing from the harbour, your experienced crew will navigate towards the islands and cliffs that are home to some of the largest puffin breeding colonies in the region. Guided by the knowledge of the captain and your experienced wildlife guide, you will visit the best locations for birdwatching while ensuring the birds are observed responsibly and without disturbing their natural environment.

During the cruise, you may also spot a variety of other seabirds, including common eiders, Arctic terns, guillemots and cormorants. If weather conditions allow, the crew may switch off the engine, giving you the chance to listen to the sounds of the bird colonies and fully appreciate the tranquillity of Iceland’s coastal nature.

Your guide will share fascinating facts about the lives of puffins and other seabirds, explaining their behaviour, breeding habits and the important role they play in Iceland’s unique ecosystem. Binoculars are available on board, allowing you to enjoy even closer views of the birds.

This excursion is an excellent choice for nature lovers, wildlife photographers and anyone wishing to see one of Iceland’s most recognisable symbols in its natural environment.

Important information

The boat deck can be slippery, so it's recommended to wear sturdy shoes. For the best viewing experience and a more enjoyable cruise, this tour depends on the weather.
Because the birds are small, it is suggested to bring a high-quality zoom lens for close-up photography or binoculars (also available on board).

Please arrive at least 15 min before departure to check-in. Meeting point: Elding ticket office (Ægisgarður 5c, 101 Reykjavík, IS).
