What to expect
Philippi, the largest archeological site of eastern Macedonia, founded by the King Philip II, father of the Alexander the Great. The ancient town with theatre, the different basilicas, the prison of St Paul, the roman agora, the cathedral of St Paul, the bathrooms and toilets of the roman period. All these give us the possibility to think about the way of life of people from the 4th century BC until the 6th century after Christ. In the romantic river landscape you learn more about Lydia, the first European lady baptized by St Paul. One picturesque baptistery is built on this place. On the way back visiting Kavala – one of the biggest and most beautiful towns in Greece – it’s famous old part – Panagia, later free time.
